The wildlife park in Gräflicher Park Bad Driburg
The 7.5-hectare beech-covered wildlife park is part of Gräflicher Park. It is separated from the park by a so-called "Ha Ha ditch". A Ha Ha ditch is a dry but deep ditch with steep slopes. As an architectural design feature, it replaces walls or fences that would detract from the landscape. The wildlife park is home to around 30 fallow deer, both the normal brownish animals and a light-colored variety. Although fallow deer are now a common inhabitant of native forests, they are originally a deer species native to Asia Minor and the Near East. In ancient times, however, fallow deer were already settled in southern Europe. Later, in the Middle Ages, it was introduced to Central Europe as park game and later successfully reproduced in the wild. However, you are unlikely to see them as close as in the Bad Driburg game reserve on hikes through the Teutoburg Forest Nature Park. Other inhabitants of the wildlife park are two camera sheep. The small Cameroon sheep originally comes from West Africa and is considered to be extremely undemanding, cold-resistant and hardy. In Europe, the fawn-colored animals are often used to graze large areas of grass. Cameroon sheep are uncomplicated to keep, they do not have typical sheep's wool and therefore do not need to be shorn.Good to know
