Wallanlage Alt-Sternberg
The Alt-Sternberg ramparts are a typical early dynastic castle from the Salian period. Coin and shard finds have dated the use of the castle to the 10th to 12th century AD. It is considered to be the predecessor of Sternberg Castle, 2 km to the east. Around 2,000 m3 of earth was moved to create the fortifications with their trenches up to 12 meters deep. With the equipment available at the time, the construction period must have taken several decades. (Text: Bernd Mühlenmeier)
