Piepenkopf und Amelungsburg

PDF

Historic site
On the wooded Piepenkopf lies a rampart from the 3rd century BC. The complex covers an area of 7 hectares and is protected by an outer earth rampart and an inner stone rampart. The ridge of the Piepenkopf is connected to the 40-metre-high hilltop of Amelungsburg Castle by a narrow ridge. Two important long-distance roads could be controlled from here. Both are still partially recognizable today as hollow paths in the forest. (Text: Bernd Mühlenmeier)
