Nettelstedt - Ortsteil Lübbecke

Tourist attractions – various
Handball and theater are the basis of Nettelstedt's nationwide reputation. Open-air plays have been performed on the natural stage on the slopes of the Wiehengebirge, one of the oldest amateur open-air theaters in Germany, since 1923. Light and cheerful, serious and lively, for children and adults, which attracts visitors from near and far, is on the program at Hünenbrink every summer.
In 1923, teacher Meyer-Spelbrink opened a home for sick children near the open-air stage, because the widespread home work in cigar production in Nettelstedt had led to a sharp increase in tuberculosis cases towards the end of the 19th century. Later, disabled people were cared for in the house on Hünenbrink.
With many national and international successes, TuS Nettelstedt (now TuS-N-Lübbecke) has written German handball history. Economically, the establishment of a sewing factory in 1934 marked the beginning of the upturn in the textile industry, which at times employed well over 1000 people in the town. Incidentally, Nettelstedt was first mentioned in a document in 1033.
