Museum/Exhibition
Right in the historic center of Paderborn, the museum in the Kaiserpfalz invites you to immerse yourself in the city's early history. The exhibition takes visitors back in time from the 6th to the 12th century and shows the role Paderborn played in the early Middle Ages.
The focus is on Charlemagne's palace, which he had built in 777 above the Pader springs - the first and only palace in Saxony at the time. Archaeological finds such as wall paintings, glass vessels and numerous other discoveries provide a vivid picture of the appearance of this complex and its historical significance. Particularly impressive is the reconstructed Ottonian-Salian palace from the early 11th century with its chapels and the unique spring cellar, which tells of Paderborn's heyday at this time.

In addition to the permanent exhibition, the museum regularly presents changing special exhibitions on various historical themes. Current information on the exhibitions and other extensive content about the museum can be found on the museum's website.
