Monument
...with its organ from 1659 - a cultural and historical jewel

The oldest church in the present-day town of Spenge can be found in the Wallenbrück district. St. Mary's Church, which stands on the banks of the Warmenau river, was first mentioned in a document in 1096 and is therefore the oldest documented reference to the settlement area of Spenge.

A bishop's document from that year states that the canoness Demod transferred her Wallenbrück farm and the church belonging to it to the Bishop of Osnabrück.

The organ in St. Mary's Church dates back to 1659, making it the oldest organ in the Ravensberg region and a real cultural and historical gem. Unfortunately, the valuable organ pipes, which are over 350 years old, are affected by so-called "lead corrosion". In order to preserve this priceless cultural asset, a special support association was founded in 2012, which organizes events with music and dance theater, among other things.
