The memorial in the castle garden with sculptures by the artist Josef Rikus was built in 1966.
It replaced the former war memorial from 1927. The site commemorates the victims of war and violence and at the same time calls for peace. Next to the sculptures, an erratic boulder was placed which had previously been found during excavation work at the Alter Markt. Every year on Remembrance Day, a memorial service is held with the participation of associations and schoolchildren.
