Rainer Maria Rilke: The Ball (1902)
You round one, who gives away the warmth from two hands
in flight, above, carefree as
your own; what cannot remain in the objects
, too carefree for them,
too little thing and yet still thing enough
not to suddenly slide invisibly into us from everything lined up outside
:
that glided into you, you between fall and flight
yet undecided: who, when he rises,
as if he had lifted it up with him,
hijacks and releases the throw - and leans
and stops and shows the players from above
suddenly a new place,
arranging them as if into a dancing figure,
to then, expected and desired by all,
surprise, simply, artlessly, all nature,
fall to the cup of high hands.
