The Kleine Theater am Weingarten, opened in 1987 and run as a public cultural institution by the Minden Adult Education Centre, has long since established itself as a highly regarded venue in the region. Rather inconspicuous from the outside, an original and professionally equipped venue with 99 seats opens up to the audience inside.
The intimate atmosphere for audience and actors enables a direct encounter - the famous spark is easily ignited and the audience is right in the middle of the action.
Since 1987, the Little Theatre has also been home to the VHS theatre workshop, which has been run by Mr Wilhelm Krückemeier since the beginning. The workshop has always been looking for people interested in theatre who want to experience themselves as actors on stage.
Almost 50 plays have been performed since the theatre workshop started, with many of the plays generating applause and discussion: drug addiction, mental abysses, xenophobia and the isolation of people in society have always been themes that have been convincingly staged. The last play performed in 2021 was "Zweifel" by Patrick Shanley.
The Kleine Theater am Weingarten also owes its reputation to the fact that it is a venue for children's theatre. With around 2,000 young spectators a year and up to 20 events, it is one of the largest providers of children's theatre in East Westphalia. With a wide-ranging repertoire, the Little Theatre at Weingarten aims to captivate young people with stories big and small, funny and sometimes thought-provoking.
The little theatre is also used for lectures and other events and can also be hired for educational or cultural events.
