Kleinenberg pilgrimage

Church
According to folklore, the appearance of an image of the Virgin Mary was the reason for the creation of the pilgrimage site. A wooden chapel was built on the site of the apparition of this image. The old chapel was replaced by a beautiful baroque building in 1742. The high altar contains the miraculous image (around 1400). It has the name "Auxiliatrix de Monte Modico" (Helper of the small mountain).

The image is carved from oak wood and is approx. 45 cm high. The maker is unknown, but the veneration of this image of grace extends far beyond the Paderborn area. The wealth of inscriptions, some of which refer to the turmoil of war, is remarkable. The north portal with the Immaculata (attested in 1742, completed in 1757) is adorned with, among other things, a Latin sentence whose German translation reads: "This portal was erected in the years when the eagle with the cock in league - a rare phenomenon - blew the trumpet of war through Germany's districts."
