Church

The Johanneskapelle chapel on Delbrücker Straße, not far from the town center, is considered Rietberg's most important architectural monument.

Consecrated in 1748, it was built for the veneration of St. John of Nepomuk at the behest of Countess Maria Ernestine Franziska von Kaunitz-Rietberg (1687-1758). In 1822, the estate of Rietberg, and with it the chapel, was sold to the entrepreneur Friedrich Ludwig Tenge. In 1999, the chapel became the property of the town of Rietberg thanks to a donation from the Tenge-Rietberg family.

The extremely original and magnificent St. John's Chapel in Rietberg can hardly be compared to any other Westphalian sacred building from this era. The curved lines of an essentially oval ground plan correspond to the finely tinted stucco marble of the walls inside.
