The Japanese Garden in the Gadderbaum district was opened in 2003. It is designed as a viewing garden and laid out as a dry landscape garden "Kare san sui". Visitors only look at the garden with their eyes, they do not walk through the idealized landscape. The wooden entrance gate is rarely opened - in keeping with Japanese style - and is symbolically reminiscent of the entrance to heaven. Stylistically, the garden can be attributed to the early Edo period (1603-1868) - the end of the strict Zen gardens.
