The village, which is over 1000 years old and was the most important pilgrimage site for St. James in northern Germany in the Middle Ages, has the Church of St. James, the second oldest surviving Romanesque church in the town of Beverungen. The tower and older part of the church were built in 1150 in the Romanesque style; the larger extension with the choir from the end of the 15th/beginning of the 16th century clearly shows the Gothic form.
The religious tradition is still maintained today - in 1981, for example, the confirmands and their fathers laid out a Crossroads with 14 brick station houses, which runs along the steep slope of the Kiepenberg and is now continued as the Höhen- und Panoramaweg across the high plateau.
