Between 1608 and 1616, the Rietberg counts Johann III and Sabina Katharina built a Renaissance-style hunting lodge on the remains of the burnt-down "Haus Holte" from the 14th century.
The castle is not open to the public and can only be viewed from the castle gate. However, it is possible to enter the castle courtyard and visit the castle chapel as part of a guided tour of the town. The castle courtyard is also open to the public as part of a (rare!) event, e.g. the castle concerts or the 400th anniversary of Holte Hunting Lodge in 2016. Every year on the last Sunday in August, the county run from Rietberg to Schloß Holte-Stukenbrock has been held since 2021. The finish line is in front of the hunting lodge.
There are 18 official selfie points in SHS, as well as a mobile one that draws attention to itself - and interesting perspectives - at city events. Sights and excursion destinations such as the 400-year-old Holte Hunting Lodge, the Ems Adventure World, the Ems Spring or the Wapelaue provide the setting for your very personal memory. Stand on it, smile, take a photo and share!
