Even today, magnificent examples of Weser Renaissance half-timbered construction can be admired in Bad Salzuflen.
A special example can be found at Hafermarkt: the Backs house, which still bears the name of a former owner.
While construction activities almost completely came to a standstill due to the effects of the Thirty Years' War, the Backs house is the last in the whole East Westphalia-Lippe region that was so richly decorated. Furthermore, it is likely one of the most photographed houses in the old town.
In golden letters, the following inscription can be read on its façade:
ANNO 1632 DEN 24 IULY HADT HERMAN V EXTER. UND. ILSE VAN SENDEN DUT. HAUS IN DEM NAMEN DER.HELIGEN DREENICHGEIT
BOWEN LATEN AN GOTTES SEGEN ISET ALLES GELEGEN. VDMIAE
V[erbum]. D[omini]. M[anet]. I[n]. AE[ternum] = lat.: „The Word of the Lord remains forever.”
