"Maygadessen belongs to a settlement area around Godelheim that has been inhabited by humans since the Neolithic period and is bordered by the Nethe and Weser valleys and the adjacent shell limestone sill to the north and west. The place names Brunsberg and Meingodessen (Meingodeshusen) provide information about early rulers in this small area. Brunsberg is mentioned as early as 775 and is associated with a Saxon Duke Brun. Maygadessen has been recorded since the early 9th century and presumably goes back to a member of the Frankish nobility by the name of Megingaud or Maingot."
