At 4.5 hectares, the orchard at the Hagsbrink farm is the largest orchard in the district. Extensively used orchards have been suffering from ageing for a long time. Fallen trees were no longer replaced, the necessary care of the trees was increasingly neglected, the harvesting of the fruit and essential mowing or grazing of the grassland was no longer possible. For this reason, a district-wide protection program for orchard meadows was launched in 1995 - precisely on the meadow at Hagsbrink! Since then, a contract has been in place with the owner to develop and protect the orchard. To increase and improve the orchards, the Biological Station has now distributed over 6,800 fruit trees of old varieties, which have been replanted by the owners of the orchards.
