The Ellerbach is one of the watercourses typical of the Paderborn plateau, which often seep into the fissured limestone of the subsoil and only carry water after abundant rainfall. The water that seeps into the stream beds continues its path underground according to the inclination of the limestone layers to the north or northwest. One hundred years ago, dyeing experiments proved that it emerges again in the Pader springs in Paderborn.
The alpacas from Ellertal found their new home at the Ellerbach in 2019. With their large, dark eyes, long eyelashes and gentle nature, the animals cast a spell over young and old alike. In addition to products made from alpaca wool, the Koch family offer guided alpaca hikes by appointment (info: www.alpaka-ellertal.de).
