Fortress/Castle
South of the B1, east of the gates of the town of Salzkotten, you can't miss the mighty tower castle.

Built around 1350 by cathedral provost Otto von Bentheim, it served as a noble residence for ecclesiastical lords. Dreckburg Castle was first mentioned in 1386. In 2008, as part of the 650th anniversary celebrations, the inner moat on three sides was restored, making it a moated castle. On the third floor of the tower castle, you can see the remains of a mural painting from the Renaissance period on the subject of the "Fountain of Youth".

The Dreckburg is now privately owned and has been extensively restored. The site regularly hosts cultural events (exhibitions, concerts, festivals). The Dreckburg is a popular stopping point for cyclists.
