Cigar box factory

The house, which dates back to a remodelling in 1805, is one of the few surviving examples of bourgeois classicism in Minden. The steam sawmill and cigar box factory Wilhelm Sültemeyer was located in the associated outbuildings from the second half of the 19th century.

It was a supplier for the dominant cigar industry in Minden in the 19th century. A former packing house (Bartlingshof 9) was initially converted into a factory and a large production building was added in 1899. In 1930, the factory moved to Artilleriestraße. Sültemeyer's property is an example of a manufacturing business that developed within the city walls during the fortress period (until 1873).
