The town wall was originally up to 6.5 metres high. Unfortunately, the former wall crown with the parapet wall has not survived. However, the stone arches on which the wooden battlements used to rest are still visible here.
In the 18th century, the town fortifications finally lost their defensive character. Although it still served as a customs barrier, large parts of it fell into disrepair.
