Manuela Johne-Sander
In my art, I have been working with wood as a material for over 20 years. By carving large sculptures and creating installations, I discovered color as a central aspect of my creative work. This has resulted in a variety of colorful and graphically processed wooden sculptures that draw their tension from the interaction between object and color. In the last two years, I have expanded my work to include the technique of wood printing. This has resulted in various series, whereby the printing block remains an independent art object alongside the print results.

As an illustrative artist, I discover the world through lines, shapes and colors. I tell stories with my pictures, with a particular interest in the peculiar relationship between animals and humans. The illustrated creatures, whether realistic or fantastic, appear alive. The aim of my artistic work lies in this liveliness, not in perfection. The pictures are created as drawings. Watercolor, acrylic, gouache, but also digital techniques are used.
