Family-friendly circular tour through the eastern part of the municipality of Hille, around 30 km long, along the mills, through the Bastau meadows ("Bruch") and the Rothenuffeln spa gardens. Level route on asphalted roads with low traffic loads, farm tracks and roadside cycle paths. Slightly ascending sections from the Bastaun lowlands towards the villages of Rothenuffeln and Oberlübbe. The route is signposted HI 1 throughout.

The "Berg und Bruch" circular cycle tour takes cyclists through 6 of the 9 villages in the municipality of Hille. This family-friendly tour can be started at any point. Numerous parking spaces and parking facilities are located directly along the designated route. The route is almost free of inclines and leads through scenically interesting areas and to numerous sights in the municipality of Hille. Among other things, the "Bastauwiesen" nature reserve is crossed twice. In the spa gardens of the village of Rothenuffeln, an ensemble of historic half-timbered buildings, play equipment and a pond landscape invite you to linger. A boules court and exercise equipment offer opportunities to put your bikes aside and get some exercise. Several gastronomic establishments (including two spa houses, so-called "Bauernbäder") offer not only coffee and cake, but also regional specialties to strengthen body and soul in typical village architecture. In Oberlübbe, the old bakery from 1839 at the Böhne farm is located directly on the route. You can also take a short break here. The Dutch windmill in the village of Südhemmern (built in 1880), the historic village chapels in the villages of Nordhemmern and Holzhausen II and the old official prison and village square in Hartum are also ideal for short stops.

At the northern turning point of the Berg- und Bruch-Tour is the Mindenerwald natural bathing lake, where you can take a free refreshing dip in the summer months (parking spaces and sanitary facilities are available). For children and the young at heart, a pirate ship right by the water invites them to play and linger. There is a kiosk in the immediate vicinity.

Further places to rest or play along the route can be found at the elementary school in Rothenuffeln and Nordhemmern. Parking is also available here.

The entire route can be shortened to around 18 km and then cycled as a north or south loop by following the cycle path signposting of the NRW cycle network between the Südhemmern mill and the village of Hartum.

Author´s Tip / Recommendation of the author

If you need an extra challenge, take a detour and follow Bergkirchener Str. in the village of Rothenuffeln in the direction of Wiehengebirge. The monument and Landragtsgrab (the final resting place of Baron von Schlotheim and his wife) are located directly on the road in the Wiehengebirge. In good weather, the view extends far into the North German Plain.
