At an elevation of about 364 meters, this is where the river begins its course, flowing through the Altenau Valley until it empties into the Alme near Nordborchen.
Right next to the spring pond is a wooden shelter with information about the region and a seating area by the water. The spring is freely accessible and lies directly on the Altenau Bike Trail, which runs from Blankenrode to Nordborchen. During dry and hot summer months, the Altenau may occasionally run dry.
