The current Baroque building was constructed in 1669 by Prince-Bishop Ferdinand von Fürstenberg to replace a dilapidated earlier church.
On the first Sunday in August, the chapel is traditionally the destination of a pilgrimage. Pilgrims from the Soratgau and Sintfeld regions come here on that day.
The chapel is located directly on the Altenau Hiking Trail and the Altenau Bicycle Trail. The grounds are open to the public and are also a great spot to take a break along the way.
