The PaderWanderung not only introduces you to Germany's shortest river, but also to a unique natural phenomenon: the more than 200 springs of the Pader, which originate in the middle of Paderborn city center. In September 2017, the PaderWanderung was the first German city hiking trail to be awarded the title "Quality City Hike" by the German Hiking Association.

This hike, which is also suitable for families - there are eight playgrounds along the way - runs along the Pader from its source to its mouth through the most popular recreational areas close to the city center just outside Paderborn. Different route lengths are possible: 11.9 km, 8.5 km, 5.5 km or 4.2 km. All paths are well paved, and some are asphalted or paved.

The PaderWanderung has been certified by the German Hiking Association as a "Qualitätsweg Wanderbares Deutschland - Stadtwanderung"!

Directions

The PaderWanderung starts at the Abdinghof church. We descend to the western Pader spring area - a garden monument from the 1950s. Passing former mills, we quickly reach the confluence of the Pader arms. We then reach the Padersee lake through the Pader meadows and floodplains. Shortly afterwards, the path forks: we can either walk past the Rochus Chapel to the fish ponds and from there via Schützenplatz back to the eastern Pader spring area (8.4 km).
Or we continue through the Schloß- und Auenpark to the mouth of the Lippe (5.4 km). A combination is also possible: we first walk to the estuary, then back to the junction and via the fish ponds back to Paderborn (11.9 km).
All paths are well surfaced, some are paved. Refreshment stops and benches invite you to take a break. A cross-connection past the Ottilienquelle spring even allows for a short tour (4.1 km).
