  • Destination: Haxterberg: Parking lot at Knickweg
This approximately one-hour walk offers beautiful views over the Haxtergrund, gives an impression of the "Old Pilgrims' Trail" and introduces you to the arboretum, which is well worth seeing.

This walk leads from the "Knickweg", which is around 230 meters above sea level near Haxterberg airfield, over the so-called Höllenberg and down around 50 meters into the Haxtergrund, which is one of Paderborn's most popular excursion destinations close to the city. It then runs along the northern edge of the valley for just under one kilometer on the Old Pilgrims' Trail. It then climbs up again - past the arboretum - to the Haxterberg. At the top, it is definitely worth visiting the arboretum, where around 40 different species of trees, shrubs and flowers grow.

Directions

From the parking lot on Knickweg, we walk to the right of way that bends towards Flufplatz. There we turn left and walk downhill on the only slightly paved path ("Gembrisweg"). After passing a hollow, the "Höllengrund", we reach a crossroads where we keep straight on. On the left we see a campfire site surrounded by a circular wall. We come to a tarmac path, which we follow to the left. After around 100 meters, we turn left onto a natural path. We are now on the "Alter Pilgrweg", which we can follow for about one kilometer. Finally, we reach a fork in the path. There we take the grit path branching off to the left (signpost: X3). We walk uphill. After a good 300 meters, we discover the Paderborn Arboretum on the left-hand side. A circular trail here introduces us to around 40 native and exotic tree species.

At the top of Knickweg, we have also reached our parking lot. From here, it is around 400 meters to the airfield buildings, which also house the "Wolke 7" café-restaurant. From the restaurant and the terrace, you can enjoy a beautiful view of the airfield. From the meadow to the right of the buildings, you can look out over the city of Paderborn all the way to the Teutoburg Forest mountain range.
