It forms its bed in wide loops. At high tide, the stretch, which is enormously lengthened by the bends, shortens. Large areas are flooded and banks are shifted. Development and other measures hinder this dynamic, such as the construction of the railroad.

Salmon, pike and trout still swam in the Werre at the beginning of the 20th century. Today, fish species such as roach and perch dominate. Even in the Middle Ages, everyone living along the river fished, and not just for their own consumption. The fish were sold at the market in Minden, which was known throughout the region in medieval Westphalia.
