At 9 km, WÜ 6 is the shortest of the 8 cycle tours. The cycle tour takes you around the Aabachtalsperre dam without any inclines and is therefore very easy to cycle, even for inexperienced cyclists.

There are a number of well-signposted cycle routes around Bad Wünnenberg. The circular routes marked WÜ 1 - 8 are between 9 km and 25.1 km long. They lead partly through meadows and fields but also through forests around Bad Wünnenberg, are largely asphalted and therefore easy to cycle on.

This circular route is 9 km long, asphalted and without gradients. It leads around the banks of the Aabach dam and offers wonderful views of the dam. It was put into operation in 1983 and has a capacity of 20 million liters. The Aabachtalsperre supplies 250,000 people from the districts of Warendorf, Gütersloh, Soest and Paderborn with drinking water. The route is accompanied by the forests surrounding the dam. From the dam wall of the reservoir, you have a good view of the Aatal and Bad Wünnenberg nature experience. In about 1 km you reach the Aatal nature experience with its extensive game reserve, the Aatal adventure park and the adventure barefoot path. This route is also suitable for inexperienced cyclists of all ages.

Author´s Tip / Recommendation of the author

After the cycle tour, take a detour to the adventure barefoot trail. The start is at the Aatal House. The motto here is: "Shoes and socks off...". Give your feet a few minutes of freedom and you will see how good it feels! A refreshing stream, warming bark mulch, sand, fine and coarse pebbles, muddy clay or simply pure grass - barefoot - can be experienced up close over a length of more than one kilometer. A 36 m long wooden boardwalk through the middle of a marshland offers a fantastic view of the idyllic Aatal valley. Crossing a suspension bridge over the Aabach stream to the clay treading pool and back through a rope-secured ford is a highlight not only for children. The quasi-natural foot zone reflex massage awakens all the senses and nature is experienced in a new way. The barefoot adventure trail is open from April to October. Guided tours are available on request.

Safety guidelines

Dogs are not allowed in the area of the Aabach dam.
