The WÜ 3 cycle route is 17.2 km long and takes you through meadows, fields and forest from Bad Wünnenberg via Fürstenberg and back to Bad Wünnenberg. The route is also suitable for inexperienced cyclists. In Fürstenberg, there is a lovely playground right next to the path where you can take a break. The Aabach dam offers a wide view over the water and the adjacent Aatal nature experience attracts visitors with an adventure barefoot trail, the Aatal adventure park and an extensive game reserve.

The cycle paths around Bad Wünnenberg marked with the red and white NRW cycle signs (WÜ = Bad Wünnenberg 1 to 8) vary in length from 9 km to 25.1 km. They lead partly through meadows and fields but also through forests around Bad Wünnenberg. Most of them are asphalted and therefore easy to cycle on.

The WÜ 3 has a length of 17.2 km. The cycle route is also suitable for inexperienced cyclists. Only from Fürstenberg to the Aabachtalsperre is there a longer uphill section, where you can push depending on your fitness level. Most of the route leads through meadows and fields, where you can enjoy the sun, the breeze and beautiful views. Sections of the tour run along old trade routes, the royal roads, on which merchants traveled in the Middle Ages. If you are traveling with children, you will find a lovely playground in Fürstenberg directly on the cycle route on the Ostring road, which invites you to take a break. From Fürstenberg, the route takes you to the Aabach dam, which was put into operation in 1983. It has a capacity of 20 million cubic meters of water and supplies 250,000 people with drinking water every day. Let your gaze wander over the water and enjoy the magnificent view. From the dam wall, you will reach the Aatal nature experience after approx. 1.5 km. There you have the opportunity to take advantage of one of the many offers, such as the Aatal adventure park or the adventure barefoot trail.

Author´s Tip / Recommendation of the author

After the cycle tour, take a detour to the adventure barefoot trail. The start is at the Aatal House. The motto here is: "Shoes and socks off...". Give your feet a few minutes of freedom and you will see how good it feels! A refreshing stream, warming bark mulch, sand, fine and coarse pebbles, muddy clay or simply pure grass - barefoot - can be experienced up close over a length of more than one kilometer. A 36 m long wooden boardwalk through the middle of a marshland offers a fantastic view of the idyllic Aatal valley. Crossing a suspension bridge over the Aabach stream to the clay treading pool and back through a rope-secured ford is a highlight not only for children. The quasi-natural foot zone reflex massage awakens all the senses and nature is experienced in a new way. The barefoot adventure trail is open from April to October. Guided tours are available on request.
