Winterkonzert mit der Hochschule für Musik Detmold
On Sunday, November 8, at 3 p.m. the “Winter Concerts with the Hochschule für Musik Detmold” will begin in the church of Bergkirchen. The three students Jihee Hyun (oboe), Boyoung Kim (flute), and Jiyeon Lee (piano) will present the results of their previous artistic collaboration.
Works for flute, oboe, and piano are rarely found in chamber music literature. Therefore, the Ventus Trio of the Hochschule für Musik Detmold has made it their mission to discover these special compositions and make them accessible to an audience. Their program connects well-known works with rarely performed compositions and takes the audience on a musical journey from the Baroque to the late Romantic period. Throughout, the flute, oboe, and piano engage in a rich dialogue with each other in ever-changing configurations.
The program will open with the Duets for Flute and Oboe No. 1 in E minor by Wilhelm Friedemann Bach, the eldest son of Johann Sebastian Bach. The works are characterized by contrapuntal finesse and virtuosic elegance, clearly revealing the musical influence of the famous father. Another significant composer of the 18th century, Johann Joachim Quantz, is also featured in the program, whose path crossed with that of Johann Sebastian Bach at the Prussian court of Frederick the Great in Potsdam. The musician, who was skilled both as a flutist and oboist, created his Trio Sonata in C minor, a work that impressively highlights the sonic possibilities of both instruments.
The program is complemented by the Piano Sonata Hob. XVI:28 in E flat major by Franz Joseph Haydn, which Jiyeon Lee will interpret as a solo work. Finally, in the second half of the concert, two rarely heard works for the trio formation will take center stage: the Trio for Flute, Oboe, and Piano in C minor op. 74 by Liszt student Karl Eduard Goepfart, and the virtuosic Fantaisie Concertante op. 36 by the French composer Jules Demersseman.
Admission tickets for €10/15/20 can be ordered at karten@bergkirchen.net or purchased at the box office from 2 p.m. Further information can be found at: www.bergkirchen.net
