Humorous Fairy Tales by the Almost-Forgotten Manfred Kyber
They argue, they love each other—and together they overcome life’s greatest challenges. With wit, warmth, and a loving eye for the little quirks of living together, Manfred Kyber wrote entertaining fairy tales around 1900 about love, marital squabbles, and life’s adventures, both big and small. They all take place in the animal world: There’s Mr. Lups, a sparrow who always calls the shots at the posh gentlemen’s club. At home, however, the new father doesn’t have much say—especially when it comes to his children. Under an old hazel bush, meanwhile, a young pair of dormice celebrates their romantic wedding in the silvery moonlight. But as the evening progresses, the couple finds itself in a dramatic situation that could cost the groom his life… Finally, there’s the caring beetle Balduin Brumsel and his wife, who have been married for a long time. Balduin always tries his best to relieve his wife of her daily worries. But on a particularly dark spring evening, something monstrous happens. Will this event send the couple’s life in a completely new direction?
Stories like these are on the program for the “Afternoon of Storytelling” presented by Eike Fleer at the Fairy Tale Museum.
