Kein guter Mann (Steinhagener Kulturtage)

Walter is a letter carrier and pretty good at making himself unpopular. At almost sixty, he is finally transferred to the department for undeliverable letters: the Christkind branch of the post office in Engelskirchen. Of course, no one is less suited to the job. One day, he receives a letter to the good Lord. It's from ten-year-old Ben. He doesn't want a cell phone or Playstation, he just wants to know how to call a plumber. Walter replies vaguely and receives a second letter in which Ben folds the good Lord in half: Why isn't he helping him? Walter begins a correspondence with Ben - as God, of course. He learns more and more about the boy's life, who runs the household for his depressed mother. Ben wants a friend more than anything else. Meanwhile, Christmas is approaching and Walter is preoccupied with his own family drama: His relationships with his children are complicated, he's been divorced for a long time, and there's this heavy guilt from his past that just won't let him rest. Perhaps Walter can help Ben - and Ben Walter?

Andreas Izquierdo, born in 1968, is an author and screenwriter. His publications include the novel "King of Albania", which was awarded the Sir Walter Scott Prize for the best historical novel of the year, and the novel "Apocalypsia", which won the Lovelybooks Silver Reader's Prize for the best book of 2010 and was voted Vorablesen.de's book of the year. "Romeo & Romy" received the Kammweg Literature Prize in 2018, and "Schatten der Welt" was awarded the bronze Homer for the best historical novel of the year in 2021.
