Playing the role of the pious monk “Brother Matthias,” the tour guide takes participants on a captivating journey back to the 12th century. Wearing an authentic cowl, with a lively storytelling style and in-depth historical knowledge, he recounts the daily monastic life of the Cistercians—including prayer and work, strict monastic rules, the tragic murder of Abbot Bernhard, and the spiritual life that continues to shape the monastery to this day.
The tour winds through the venerable halls and cloisters and across the monastery square, bringing the history of Marienfeld Abbey to life in a unique way.
The tour begins at 3:00 p.m. in front of the main entrance to the abbey church and lasts approximately 90 minutes. The participation fee of 8.00 euros per person is to be paid in cash on site.
