A Wanderer Between Worlds – His Final Program

After more than 50 years and performances in over 75 countries, Prof. Matitjahu Kellig is presenting his final program. He will give his farewell concert at the Marta Herford. The Jewish and German pianist has always been a “Wanderer Between Worlds.” He taught as a professor of piano at several conservatories and, until recently, served as president of the Jewish Community of Herford-Detmold.

Kellig is a passionate bridge-builder between different worlds and religions. His latest program combines Christian sacred music with modern classical works by Jewish composers, as well as traditional European music with Israeli music. He performs works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Paul Ben Haim, Alessandro Marcello, Ben Zion Orgad, Lior Shambadal, Domenico Scarlatti, and Viktor Ullmann.

Matitjahu Kellig on his latest program: “Two thoughts guide me in this:

‘Our belief was that the German and Jewish spirits could meet on German soil and, through their union, become a blessing. This was an illusion.’ Rabbi Leo Baeck (after his liberation from the Theresienstadt ghetto)

“Anyone who doesn’t believe in miracles is not a realist.” David Ben-Gurion (First Prime Minister of the State of Israel)”
