Synopsis:
Maria (Saoirse Ronan), an elementary school teacher, tries everything she can to inspire and encourage her class of 10-year-olds. But there is one particularly chaotic and unpredictable student who repeatedly throws her lessons off balance. As her professional future is increasingly at stake and the child’s behavior grows worse, Maria makes several disastrous mistakes. This ultimately leads her to accidentally take the troublemaker home with her and lock him in the basement. Although Maria tries to fix the situation, when the class suddenly begins to thrive and both her colleagues and the parents are impressed by the positive changes, there seems to be no easy way out of her predicament.
