Lax played a significant role in the development of the new town through its construction activities. The construction of the water tower made it possible to supply the neighbourhood with running water. Together with the installation of a sewerage system, Lax created a sanitary standard for this neighbourhood that the rest of the city would not reach until 50 years later. After the construction of a sewerage system throughout the city, the facilities in Laxburg were also used by the city. As the oldest preserved water tower in Westphalia, this building is an industrial monument of significance beyond Minden.
