Porta Westfalica is much more than just the Weser breakthrough! With the start and finish point at the train station in Porta Westfalica, there is the option of making a detour to the TV tower either at the beginning or end of the route. The incredible view from the viewing platform of the TV tower is worth every effort of the climb.
The cycle route follows the course of the Weser upstream and initially leads to the "Großer Weserbogen" leisure facility: Here you can swim, paddle, windsurf and even sail. The route leaves the Weser in Holtrup and leads along slightly hilly roads and fields with little traffic before turning north towards the Weser mountains in Eisbergen. You cross the Weser mountains towards Kleinenbremen and then follow the route along the north side back towards the Weser.
Eryk's tip on this route is to make sure you make a longer stop to visit the visitor mine in Kleinenbremen. Here you can travel back in time, take a ride on the mine train, experience the mysterious underground world and learn interesting facts about the history of mining. Another recommendation is a detour to Bückeburg Castle. To do this, leave the junction network between KP 36 and 35 to travel to Bückeburg. After the round trip, it is also worth taking a trip to the Kaiser Wilhelm Monument. You can either take the convenient shuttle bus (line 518) from the station (your destination) or cycle up there. To do this, leave the junction network opposite the route's destination at KP 48.
