Zoo/wildlife park

The most animal-friendly of all family excursion destinations opens from March to November.
The Herford zoo is home to many exotic and native animals.

While dad is impressed by the Southeast Asian tiger python, the youngest guests are usually magically drawn to the petting zoo. Many a heroic deed has been accomplished here, from "petting a cheeky goat" to "feeding a giant swan". And the little explorers also have their favorite meeting places: At the meerkat enclosure, there's a bet as to who can tell the difference between the scurrying little fellows, while the kangaroos are puzzling over whether something small might be peeking out of their pouch.

With more than 600 animals from 90 different species, a wide range of animals can be seen at Herford Zoo.

Your children can let off steam on two large playgrounds with big bush towers, climbing facilities and a ropeway.
Meanwhile, adults can enjoy homemade cakes in the adjoining Café Waldfrieden.
