How it started
The Smile Optic family would like to briefly introduce itself to you. Smile Optic is the brand for the young and young at heart and is part of Optik Jahn GmbH. In 2010, Thorsten Jahn, Managing Director of Optik Jahn GmbH, decided to leave the classic and perhaps somewhat dusty field of optometry and create something younger and fresher. The idea for Smile Optic was born and so the company launched in 2010 with the unique Smile Optic concept, All Glasses - One Price, on the German optician market. Optik Jahn GmbH is a family-run, medium-sized company in the Rhineland, which has been successfully and reliably supplying and advising you as a customer with high-quality products such as glasses and hearing aids since 1979.

Regional and affordable
Optik Jahn GmbH is a regional employer in the Rhineland, Westphalia, East Westphalia, Lower Saxony and the Ruhr region. The company creates jobs for more than 200 employees in the region, continues to grow and manufactures your glasses in its own master workshop at its home base in Cologne. Smile Optic and Optik Jahn GmbH employ only trained opticians and master opticians as well as hearing aid acousticians and master hearing aid acousticians. Optik Jahn GmbH does not cut corners when it comes to staff, advice and service quality. Smile Optic is the logical and sensible expansion of the portfolio in order to position the company for a modern and successful future. The special thing about Smile Optic is the pricing. You can get glasses with your prescription for €149 and varifocals with your prescription for €249.
Development
Equipped for the future
Launched in Cologne in 2010 with 2 stores, in 2015, Smile Optic is represented in Cologne with 6 stores and one store each in Duisburg, Hennef, Viersen, Heinsberg, Troisdorf, Gelsenkirchen, Ratingen, Herne, Dinslaken, Düren and Oberhausen. Branches in Rheine, Ahaus and another in Cologne followed in 2016. At the beginning of 2017, the branch in Neuss and the Smile Optic online store joined the family. Further Smile Optic stores are being planned for 2017 and will follow in the coming weeks and months. The online store www.smileoptic.de, which was launched in January 2017, is the latest project and expands the eyewear range, which includes over 1,000 brands and own brands, in a meaningful way.
In 2019, we reached a new milestone: the technology was significantly expanded with a second hall and major investments were made in the production facilities. Only very few providers in Germany manufacture at this level. Smile Optic is therefore equipped for the future. New branches in Bergheim, Velbert and Gütersloh.
In 2020, the branches in Herford, Krefeld, Lemgo and Unna will follow.
In 2021, the focus is on growth. The Detmold, Coesfeld, Lippstadt, Herford and Paderborn branches join the Smile family.
