In February 1949, 12 bargemen from Minden and the surrounding area founded the association.
The majority of them were employed by the federal towing company or in Weser shipping.
The names of their colleagues were:
Wilhelm Bernau
Fridolin Grote
Heinrich Gehrke sen.
Heinrich Gehrke jun.
Karl Gehrke
Karl Hormann
Wilhelm Küster
Wilhelm Langhans
Ernst and Wilhelm Niemann
Karl Siegmann
Rudolf Volkmann
The name "Hol fast" was chosen as a symbol of our adherence to tradition, our profession and the camaraderie between colleagues.
Tugboat shipping on the Weser and the canals was in full bloom. The canal overpass and the Kaiser Wilhelm monument at the Porta were chosen as symbols for the association's flag.
All skippers in possession of civil rights were allowed to become members of the association. The first chairman4 was Fridolin Grote.
The first club flag was ceremoniously consecrated in 1953.
In 1957, the club's own mast at the junction of the Mittelland Canal and the Schachtschleuse was ceremoniously inaugurated in the presence of the mayor and several city councillors as well as many guests.
