Schierl's pond - a natural jewel in the Great Heath

Tucked away between Avenwedde train station and Friedrichsdorf is a hidden gem: Schierls Teich, a heath pond with a special charm. Surrounded by gentle dunes with gnarled pines, blueberry bushes and flowering heather, this quiet place invites you to pause and marvel.

The shallow pond - barely more than 30 cm deep - disappears in summer, leaving behind a fascinating landscape of pipe grass, matgrass and rare plant species. Once upon a time, even floristic treasures such as the middle sundew or the brown beak reed bloomed here.

A real insider tip for nature lovers and anyone who wants to experience the special atmosphere of the Great Heath!
