In response to the increasing water pollution and the dangerous current of the Weser, the city council decided in 1935 that the construction of an open-air swimming pool was "of the utmost importance in terms of public hygiene and sport, but also in terms of attracting foreign visitors". The experienced pool architect Otto Immendorff then took over the construction management and pushed ahead with the work quickly. The inauguration of the outdoor pool complex was celebrated in the spring of 1937. The Höxter outdoor pool is one of the few preserved outdoor pools in Germany that was built according to the plans of Immendorf, a swimming pool specialist at the time, and was therefore included in the list of monuments.
In 2019, the outdoor pool was reopened after extensive renovation. Despite careful interventions in the pool body, it was possible to create an attractive and contemporary outdoor pool. In addition to a beautiful paddling pool for the little ones, there is a wave slide and a 5-metre diving tower for older children with swimming badges. Swimmers can enjoy a wonderful view of the Ziegenberg in the 50 metre pool. The sunbathing lawn is dominated by large trees and offers plenty of shady spots even on sunny days.
