The Museum im Hütteschen Haus is located in a listed Weser Renaissance building dating from 1565 in Höxter's town centre. After a fire, the building was rebuilt in 1910 with some changes typical of the period. The charm of this period is still documented today by elaborate stencil paintings in the rooms. Following renovation in 2012, the building now houses a private cultural history museum.
A professional collection of over 15,000 artefacts from the past 140 years forms the core of the museum. Numerous exhibitions throughout Germany have already emerged from this collection.
The museum is only open during the current exhibitions. In spring, it shows a cultural history exhibition on a decade of the 20th century, in summer it alternates between a Lego and Playmobil exhibition and at Christmas an exhibition on a Christmas theme or old toys. Small exhibitions on various themes are presented in parallel in the cabinet.
