Historic town centre
Laxburg is the name given to the area between Kaiserstrasse, Friedrich Wilhelmstrasse and Kasernenstrasse on the right-hand side of the Weser, which was created around the station when the Cologne-Minden railroad opened in 1847.
It was named after the building contractor Franz Lax, who first built his house here at Friedrich-Wilhelm-Straße 3. In the period up to around 1858, he developed the surrounding properties. Lax improved the infrastructure by building a fresh water supply and sewage system as well as through his efforts to build a school. Lax also supported projects in the old town area of Minden, such as the construction of the "Tonhalle".
