The design of the bridge was presented as a special achievement by German engineers at the 1900 World Exhibition in Paris. The bridge connected the district railway line with the facilities of the state railroad on the right bank of the Weser. In 1898, the "Mindener Kreisbahnen", founded by the district with financial support from the town, put its first line between Minden and Uchte into operation. The state-supported expansion of a small railway network was intended to promote industrialization. In the area around Minden, agriculture and passenger transport initially benefited from the new means of transportation. The single-track meter-gauge railroad bridge was converted for standard-gauge vehicles in 1915. The bridge, which was blown up by German troops in 1945, was rebuilt in 1948. The structure was completely renovated in 1977.
