Hungerbergturm - Aussichts- und Museumsturm

Vantage point/Observation tower
Those who have climbed the steep ascent to the Hungerberg (325 m) and the approx. 90 steps to the viewing platform are treated to a truly magnificent view.
The observation and museum tower was built in 2008 by the Marienmünster local history and culture association according to plans by graduate engineer Andrea Hecker. The executing company was System-Holzbau-Hecker GmbH & Co.KG from Marienmünster. Well over 1,000 hours of work by hard-working club members went into it.

It consists of an inner stair tower made of larch wood and an outer tower made of heavy glulam pillars with horizontal and diagonal connecting elements.

Both tower sections are connected to form a single unit via struts. The total height without the symbolic signal mast is around 26 meters. The approx. 30 m² viewing platform is at a height of 21 meters.

At the same time, this tower is intended to keep alive the memory of station no. 30 of the optical telegraph line from Berlin to Koblenz, which was built there 175 years ago. The tower now stands in the immediate vicinity of the former station, which was demolished in 1850 and on whose foundations the Hungerberg Chapel now stands.
