The Hagemeyer store was converted into one of the most modern textile stores in Germany in 2009.
Wobbecke Clare, the widow of the merchant and mayor Thomas von Campen, had one of the town's most magnificent town houses completed in 1594.
The building extends as far as the retaining wall in front of the steps to the Upper Old Town. The elaborate stone façade made of Obernkirchen sandstone with its columned structure and figural decoration on the gable staffs is considered the most important work of the Weser Renaissance in Minden. It is possibly the work of the sculptor Johann Robyn from Ypres in Flanders, who also made the entrance to the castle in Detmold. A frieze depicting the "Seven Good Heroes" originally adorned a bay window of the adjoining building and is now on display inside the Hagemeyer Gallery.
From the middle of the 17th century, the building housed the town weigh house and the Aczisehaus, which later became the county and town court, until it returned to private ownership in 1859. In 1933, the merchant Hermann Hagemeyer acquired the building. It was repeatedly converted and extended for use as a department store right up to the present day. The two-tone façade was designed in 1977.
In 2009, the owner families had the Hagemeyer building converted into one of the most modern textile stores in Germany. Since then, it has been regarded as a benchmark for modern clothing stores.
For Minden, the plus in shopping fun.
