Today, the permanent exhibition presents interesting aspects of Gütersloh's urban development, everyday life and economic history in an original, easily comprehensible way and with a sometimes surprising selection of media. The medical history collection was even awarded a special prize in the European Museum Prize. In addition, interesting special exhibitions take place throughout the year.
The cozy museum café is located directly next to the town museum. The two small half-timbered houses in which the museum café invites you to enjoy coffee and cake used to stand in Mauerstraße, near the present-day town hall. Both buildings were moved in 2000 - the residential building in one piece. It was gutted, braced with diagonal struts, "packed" into a wooden transport cage, lifted onto a low loader (it weighed almost 20 tons) and driven to its new location. The café is worth a visit not only for its delicious cakes and cozy, nostalgic atmosphere
