Bismarckstein

Monument
The Bismarck Stone in front of the Hermann Monument is one of many similar monuments in honor of the German Chancellor Prince Otto von Bismarck that have been erected throughout Germany, but it takes on a special and interesting significance in connection with its special location at the foot of the Hermann Monument. This monument was erected to mark von Bismarck's dismissal as Reich Chancellor in 1890.

The plaque embedded in the monument reads:
,,Dedicated to Prince
Otto von Bismarck
on his 80th birthday
by his
admirers at the Teuto-
burger Walde.
April 1, 1893"

On the back, his surname ,,Bismarck" is engraved. Furthermore, a bronze plate with a portrait of Bismarck with the inscription: "To the Iron Chancellor April 1, 1893"

is embedded in the monument.
